Some capacitors have resistors connected across the terminals. This resistor, visible at the capacitor terminal, slowly bleeds the capacitor of its charge to lesson the arching of the motor control points. Such arching may occur when the unit cycles frequently.
When testing a capacitor, it is important to have the proper tools such as a capacitor tester and analyzer. Capacitor size must be accurately suited to the motor load. It is a general practice to permit up to 10% over capacity. An undersized capacitor should never be used. If at all possible always use an exact replacement.
